As a Senior Cloud Hardware Planner, you will play a key role in driving the roadmap for the
hardware infrastructure. You will be responsible for driving cross-functional decision-making
teams to deliver the strategy and roadmap. This role will have a focus on AI and Specialized
Computing, but you will have opportunities to influence the hardware roadmap across a broad
range of cloud businesses. We immensely value culture, mentorship, and acting as a unified
Effective Planners are able to drive the Hardware Roadmap bridging Customer
Requirements, Technical Development, and Business Strategic Direction. This role is
further responsible for developing processes to drive cross-functional planning and to
enable efficient, collaborative decision-making within Azure.
Lead cross-functional teams to define, prioritize, and implement features,
infrastructure, processes, and workflows.
Create and operationalize processes to transform the effectiveness of the organization
with respect to meeting business goals. Coach, enable, and grow Planners within the
team and our partners.
Scope technical and business problems and processes by identifying key issues, inputs,
stakeholders, and outcomes.
Responsible for effective communication and escalation of risks and dependencies while
ensuring timely decisions are being made.
Be comfortable interacting with senior management, highlighting risks across functional
teams and providing recommendations to support product level decisions.
Operate effectively in ambiguity. Apply process where it creates value, and design
process where it’s needed. Recognize the situations where each approach is most
Ensuring cross functional alignment: generating clarity, tracking towards release
milestones and overall readiness for all new Data Center infrastructure deployments.
Drive technical projects from requirements through launch, including managing complex
project schedules, removing roadblocks, and keeping processes running smoothly.
Work with hardware architects, engineering, and business teams to develop and drive
end to end program development.
Perform roadmap scenario modeling, financial modeling, and market analysis for the
recommended HW platform factoring in performance, features, cost, and time-tomarket tradeoffs.
Create, maintain, and effectively disseminate project communication to stakeholders.
BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar
5+ years industry experience in Compute Hardware development.
Preferred Qualifications include depth and expertise in one or more of the below areas:
MBA or other education in Business Administration
Knowledge of server technology and computer architecture
Knowledge of cloud datacenter architecture
Product Planning or Product Management experience in Compute Hardware, preference
for experience in specialized computing (AI, HPC, etc.).
Proven customer obsession in prior roles where customer requirements were gathered
and implemented into a product.
Proven capabilities to drive positive business results by working across multiple
organizations, demonstrating Leadership by Influence
Demonstrated experience using financial analysis models to drive business decision
Deep technical understanding of GPU architecture, design and development, with
emphasis on Artificial Intelligence applications
Deep technical understanding of CPU architecture, design and development, with
emphasis on power and performance analysis
Deep technical understanding of commodity storage or memory technologies (SSDs,
HDDs, tape, DRAM etc.) and knowledgeable on storage and/or memory industry trends
Experience working in a Hardware Product Development environment, including
extensive experience driving programs through a Product Lifecycle Management
Ability to build relationships and influence in a matrix organization.
Highly effective written and oral communication skills with proven ability to present to a
wide range of cross-functional partners across different teams and levels of the
organization. Executive Communications experience preferred.
Self-motivated, driven individual who can work in a rapidly changing environment.
Ability to work in an ambiguous business environment with competing business tasks.
